Tooth reshaping can smooth small chips, minor unevenness, and slightly overlapping edges in a single visit, but it only removes a small amount of enamel, so it is not a fix for anything beyond a minor cosmetic irregularity.
It is one of the simplest treatments we do, and often the most underused, because people assume any correction to their smile means veneers or months of orthodontics. For a small chip on a front tooth, or one edge that sits slightly off from its neighbour, reshaping alone is sometimes genuinely enough.
The process is gentle contouring: carefully removing a small amount of enamel to smooth the shape, then polishing. There is no anaesthesia needed for most cases, and you can usually see the result the same visit.
What it will not do: fix a significantly chipped tooth, correct real misalignment, or change tooth colour. Those need bonding, veneers, or orthodontics instead, and we will say so plainly if reshaping is not going to get you the result you are picturing.
If there is one tooth that has bothered you for years because of a small, specific imperfection, it is worth asking. The fix is sometimes far simpler than people expect.
